random mini stuff

- A squad of women rugby players have smashed their own record for the number of people that can fit in a mini.

- Eighteen of the players squeezed into a New MINI, which was produced in Oxford. Colin Goodwin, of Autocar who set up the record attempt, said:

"We have tested every other aspect of the new MINI, but not the one thing that the old Mini was most famous for."

- The Reading team crammed seven people into the front of the car, another seven in the back, two in the boot, one on parcel shelf, and one across the dashboard.

- Last year, 17 of the squad fitted into an old-style Mini, which is slightly smaller than the new car.

1275cc A+ Series

It's finally happened, all that talk about replacing my old 998 with something with more guts has finally come true. I bought an old 1275 A+ Metro engine complete as seen on picture... I've pretty much stripped every possible thing down and now I'm rebuilding it. The head, block and the transmition has been sent away to be serviced.

new valves & springs

disc brake kit    03 aug 07

I have finally converted my front brakes to discs, I had enough of adjusting my drums constantly and the steering wheel shake so much that it felt like it was going to jump out of place. The cooper s style kit was brand new cost me au$ 1,700.00 it all come in pieces nothing was together so unless your a master with brakes I think this one should be left alone to the experts.... more info and images coming soon.

Customized air intake (K&N Pod)    08 Jul 07

This is something different I must admit, but I really had fun working on this mod. From the day the idea was placed inside my head to the day of completion. It was under a weak that I had my Mini running around with a massive 3" K&N pod Filter under the bonnet. I have noticed a big improvement with the response time and the whistle sound.

engine specification     23 Jun 07

I was looking around today for a block to rebuild and all I come across were 998cc, everyone keeps telling me how its hard to find a 1275cc or even better an 1380cc... so I think I mite stick with an 1100cc. There is a chart I found [view image] which shows the year model and its bhp/kw, I know how much I've got because I have a Dyno chart "30HP" at the wheels. Today I was over my friends place and he did a compression test on all four pistons and it all come out around 140-150 psi, I'm not quiet sure what they come out of the factory with but I'm looking into it. There was a guy who was selling a 1275cc full rebuilt engine wit the works and his had 200 psi on all for pistons.

headlight conversion     21 Jun 07

I've finally decided to rip out my original Lucas headlights and put in a halogen h4 conversion kit, and what a difference it makes I only wish I had done it sooner. The result speaks for Its self, and makes night time drive a lot safer and more fun. I did however have a bit of difficulty installing them because these aren't round like the original Lucas headlights they are flat, so the aluminum ring had to much play so I had to use padding to stop them from moving around. The end result... couldn't be better.

Dynamometer     19 Jun 07

Last Monday I booked  in for a Dyno, I was just curious what it will punch out and how much the car is out of tune... they ran it twice on Tuesday at "Liverpool Dyno Dynamics" it punched out 30HP at the wheels in 3rd gear doing around 95km/h at 6000 rpm. From what the mechanic told me it definitely needs a tune up specially the air-fuel mixture, its running way to rich at the moment.

I've scanned and uploaded the Dyno printout chart [view image]

weekend workshop     16 Jun 07
